Ceinturon Est is a bathing beach located in Hyères in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 1.3 km long and 50 m wide, composed of small pebbles with a south-east orientation. It features a very gentle slope on the emerged section and a steep slope on the submerged section. The beach is highly frequented and used for bathing and non-motorised water sports.

Coastal water body in the Mediterranean. The catchment area has a total surface of 54 km². The beach has a very gentle slope when emerged and a steep slope when submerged.

Location

Hyères, Var department, south-eastern France. Access to the bathing site is via Place Saint Louis. Coordinates: N 43°06'13.9" - E 6°10'41.1". Parking is available. The site is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Facilities

Rescue post with 2 lifeguards. Four shower outlets accessible to people with reduced mobility. One unisex toilet with disabled access. Drinking water point available. Waste bins with selective sorting. Restaurants (beach chalets) present. Disabled access to the site and water entry equipment for disabled users provided.

Season

Annual monitoring period: 1 July to 31 August. Daily monitoring period: 10:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Final classification in 2022: Excellent. Microbiological monitoring is conducted by both the ARS (health authority) and auto-surveillance by a metropolitan service provider. No microbiological pollution was recorded in 2019 and 2021. Preventive closures occurred on 28 June 2022 and 14 September 2022 due to adverse meteorological conditions; no contamination was confirmed. No chemical pollution was recorded from 2019 to 2022. No biological pollution was recorded from 2019 to 2022.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include: moderate bacterial pollution risk from the Gapeau river during rainfall due to street washing, accidental wastewater discharge, and storm overflow; moderate bacterial pollution risk from the Roubaud river via storm overflow discharges; low risk from Hyères port black water discharge; low risk from rainwater collectors due to street washing; low risk from pump stations and possible network overflow during malfunction; low risk from stagnant water in La Lône de la Ritorte and La Lône du Mérou streams.
