Ceinturon Ouest is a bathing beach located in Hyères in the Var département of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The beach is 2 kilometres long and composed of sand and small pebbles, with a very gentle slope on the emerged section and a gentle slope on the submerged section. It is oriented south-east and has an open configuration. The beach experiences high visitor numbers and is used for bathing and non-motorised water activities.

Location

Hyères, Var département, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, France. Coordinates: N 43°05'32.4" - E 6°09'48.4". Access via Boulevard de la Marine. Parking available. No disabled access to the bathing site or water entry equipment for disabled users.

Facilities

Accessible showers for people with reduced mobility. One mixed toilet (PMR accessible). Drinking water point. Waste bins. Restaurants (beach chalets). Parking. No rescue post. No lifeguards. No animals permitted. Information board present.

Water Quality

2022 final classification: Excellent. Microbiological monitoring conducted by ARS and self-surveillance by TPM contractor. Microbiological indicators monitored: Escherichia coli and faecal Enterococci. No microbiological pollution reported in 2019 or 2021. Preventive closures occurred on 28 June 2022 and 14 September 2022 due to adverse weather conditions; results showed no contamination. No chemical pollution reported in 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022. No biological pollution reported in 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022.

Potential pollution sources identified: coastal river Le Roubaud (medium risk in dry conditions, high risk during heavy rain); storm water overflows (low risk); Hyères port (medium risk in dry conditions, low risk during heavy rain); rainwater collectors (low risk); lift stations (low risk); equestrian centre (low risk); pumped seawater system from hotel lagoon (monitored and controlled). Risk evaluation by time of year and weather conditions conducted for all identified sources.
