Plage de la Mare is a beach located on the northeast coast of the Cotentin Peninsula in the commune of Montfarville, extending approximately 400 metres north of Pointe Maigret and bordering the hamlet of la Mare. The beach has a gentle slope and sandy shore. It serves the local population and summer visitors in this coastal region of Normandy.

Location

Montfarville commune, Cotentin Peninsula, northeast coast. Located north of Pointe Maigret, bordering the hamlet of la Mare de Montfarville. Neighbouring communes include Barfleur and Réville.

Season

Summer season monitoring established from 2014 onwards.

Water Quality

Health monitoring of bathing water quality was initiated in summer 2014. Water quality assessment follows Directive 2006/7/CE standards with classification based on faecal contamination markers.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include domestic wastewater from collective and non-collective systems, stormwater runoff, agricultural activities, artisanal and industrial activities, port and moorage zones, camping and caravan areas, and fairgrounds.
