Plage de l'Eglise is a bathing beach located in the commune of Barfleur. The beach is subject to monitoring and management under European bathing water quality directives. A vulnerability profile was established in 2012 and revised in 2013–2016 to identify and manage pollution sources that could affect water quality and swimmer health.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored under Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring includes faecal indicator germs, classification history, and closure records. Shellfish production zones and recreational foot-fishing zones are also monitored bacteriologically.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include coastal discharges, collective sanitation systems (Montfarville wastewater treatment station), non-collective sanitation, stormwater, agricultural activities (livestock farming, leek washing facilities), artisanal and industrial activities, port and mooring zones, camping areas, mobile home facilities, and caravan parks.
