Port Grimaud Sud is an artificial sandy beach located in Grimaud, measuring 260 metres in length. The bathing zone is situated in a port environment with residential and recreational activities. Water quality has been monitored since 2013 by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), with surveillance conducted during the official swimming season from June 1 to September 30.

Water

Artificial sandy beach of 260 metres length. Water circulation follows a linear current pattern influenced by the mistral wind. The water body is subject to daily mechanical and manual beach cleaning.

Location

Port Grimaud Sud, Grimaud. The beach is located near the port area with access to parking and facilities. A rescue post and sanitary facilities are available on-site.

Rescue post, sanitary facilities, information display boards, lifeguard coverage, speed limitation zone (5 knots), bathing-only zone (ZRUB), motorised engine prohibition zone (ZIEM), windsurfing area, moored vessel area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (as of 2021). Conformity rate of 98% since 2016, with 96% conformity in routine analysis since 2014. Monitoring occurs twice weekly from June 1 to September 30, with 10 samples per season. Pollution risk level is classified as Moderate. Analysis method: Impedance with results in maximum 13 hours. Identified pollution sources include wastewater collection networks, treatment stations, stormwater runoff, and the Giscle river.

Risks

Heavy rainfall events (cumulative >10mm/3h) trigger preventive bathing closures. Stormwater surge degrades water quality. Wastewater network ruptures and porosity present significant risks. Treatment station overloads during rainfall. Private pump station malfunctions may cause overflow. Wastewater discharge from Grimaud and Cogolin treatment stations.
