Magaud beach is a 240-meter sandy beach located in La Garde, Provence-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur region, oriented to the south. The beach has a moderate visitor frequency and is primarily used for swimming. It is managed by the Mayor of La Garde, Hélène Arnaud-Bill.

Location

La Garde, Provence-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur, Var department. Access via Route de la Mer through Avenue Commandant Houot. No parking available at the beach.

Facilities

Rescue post with 2 lifeguards, 1 shower at rescue post, 1 toilet (shared with Méjean beach), drinking water at rescue post, 5 waste bins, restaurant.

Season

1 July to 31 August. Lifeguard surveillance from 10:00 to 19:00 during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classification history (2019–2023): Excellent (2019), Good (2020), Sufficient (2021), Insufficient (2022), Not classified (2023). Pollution incidents recorded: Escherichia coli detected on 23 August 2021 (suspected boat sewage discharge); Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci on 30 May 2022 (suspected boat sewage discharge); intestinal enterococci on 20 June 2023 (unknown origin). All three incidents resulted in beach closure.

Risks

Bacterial pollution from pluvial discharge (1,500 m away), treated wastewater discharge from Amphora treatment plant operated by Veolia (1,500 m away), wastewater lift station with odorous discharge potential (3 m away). History of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci contamination linked to suspected boat sewage discharge.
