Plansee is a lake connected to Heiterwanger See via a canal, consisting of two basins with maximum depths of 78 and 72 metres. The lake covers a total area of 2.87 square kilometres. It is used as a storage reservoir by Elektrizitätswerk Reutte for hydroelectric power generation. The bathing area at Hotel Seespitz is designated for recreational swimming.
