Anguileiro Beach is a natural sandy beach located in Tapia de Casariego, Asturias, on the western Cantabrian coast. The beach is 410 metres long with a width of 563 metres and features fine golden sand. It experiences a macrotidal regime with tidal amplitude exceeding 4 metres. Water renewal occurs within 7 days, and the beach experiences moderate wave conditions with high occupation levels.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good based on microbiological analysis at sampling point PM3. The beach received Blue Flag designation consecutively from 2014 to 2017. Overall contamination risk assessed as low. Primary pollution sources identified include the Anguileiro River (discharges and seepage from agricultural and livestock operations), Tapia Port (less than 0.5 km away), urban submarine outfall (0.9 km away), and urban sanitation discharge (0.4 km away). A closure occurred in July 2018 due to detection of enterobacteria.

Risks

Anguileiro River presents diffuse pollution sources from livestock manure spills and seepage from agricultural parcels. Short-duration contamination episodes occur fortnightly, lasting less than 12 hours, with increased enteric bacteria and turbidity.
