Burriana is an urban beach in Nerja, Málaga, located along the Mediterranean coast of Andalusia. The beach spans 880 metres in length with an average width of 40 metres and features dark sand composition. Bathing conditions are characterised by moderate wave exposure, with currents predominantly directed northeast. The beach is heavily occupied and well-urbanised with direct pedestrian and vehicular access.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Deep water with mud and sand substrate. Microtidal range (0–2 metres). Wave regime dominated by easterly and east-southeast winds associated with levante wind. Current regime dominates towards the northeast. Annual precipitation 400–600 mm with torrent index 25–50%.

Location

Nerja, Málaga, Andalusia, Spain. The beach is situated along the Litoral de Málaga, accessible on foot and by car. A promenade and walkways provide access to the beach.

Red Cross beach post present. Lifeguard equipment available. Toilets, showers, and waste bins provided. Beach cleaning service operates. Disabled access available. Signage for danger present. Nautical rental services available. Marina del Este nearby.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for all monitoring seasons: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Low short-term microbiological pollution risk (24-hour duration) from diffuse sources including land use in the influence zone, constructed surfaces, and altered areas. Three watercourses (Barranco de Burriana and two other barrancos) are identified as potential runoff sources.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
