Cala Alcaufar is a natural bathing beach located on the island of Menorca in the Balearic Islands. The beach measures 35 metres in length and 40 metres in width with a gentle slope. It is a free-access recreational area used primarily by local residents on a daily basis with high visitor numbers. The water has been consistently classified as excellent in annual assessments from 2019 to 2022.

Natural free-access bathing water. Length 35 metres, width 40 metres, with a gentle slope. No currents, whirlpools, or undertow present. Water body reference: MEMCO1M6, located between Cap de Bajolí and Punta Prima.

Location

Located in Sant Lluis municipality, Menorca, Balearic Islands. Pedestrian access is good. Vehicle access and parking are both available and in good condition. Disabled access is available and in good condition.

Lifeguards present. Toilets and showers available. Disabled access: good. Information point on the beach.

Water Quality

Annual quality classification: excellent for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Water status 2007–09: good. Water status 2018–19: good. Water status 2022–23: good. Short-duration pollution episodes (<72 hours): 2 in 2019, 0 in 2020, 0 in 2021, 1 in 2022. No exceptional pollution episodes (>72 hours) recorded. Floating waste accumulation: low in 2019, very low in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Identified pollution sources include two wastewater treatment plants (one without overflow relief, one with 170-metre overflow relief), torrent and rainwater discharge, boat discharges, and septic tanks.

Risks

Jellyfish: occasional occurrence. No recorded history of harmful algal blooms or cyanobacteria.
