Cala Esmeralda is a natural bathing area located on the island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. The beach is 40 metres long and 25 metres wide with a gently sloping sandy bottom. It is a free-access recreational beach experiencing high daily visitor numbers, primarily from outside the local area. The water is characterised by the absence of currents, whirlpools, and undertow.

Location

The beach is situated in the municipality of Santanyí on Mallorca, Balearic Islands. Parking is available and of good quality. No pedestrian pathway or vehicle access to the beach is available. Disabled access is not available.

Parking available (good quality). No lifeguards, toilets, showers, or disabled access mentioned.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good for 2007–2009, 2018–2019, and 2022–2023. Annual rating was Good for all years 2019–2022. One short-duration contamination episode (<72 hours) recorded in 2022. One exceptional-duration episode (>72 hours) recorded in 2021. Identified pollution sources include septic tanks, boat discharges, and rainwater runoff. Emission point EBAR present.

Risks

Occasional jellyfish presence. No history of phytoplankton or cyanobacteria proliferation.
