Water quality rated as excellent for 2000–2011 period. One point source of pollution identified: Mar Menor Sur wastewater treatment plant (urban classification, punctual source).

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems; testing in 2008–2009 showed negligible presence of potentially toxic cells. Risk level is null or very low. Jellyfish appear seasonally with maximum abundance from early spring to late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable.
