Calabardina is a recreational bathing beach located in Águilas, Murcia, in the Mediterranean coastal zone. The beach has a natural origin with fine sand, measures 450 meters in length and 30 meters in width, and is characterized by a gently sloping sandy bottom. High visitor frequency supports daily recreational use among local residents. The water body is free of currents, whirlpools, and undertow, with micromareal tidal range.

Season

Biweekly inspections conducted during the bathing season with visual inspection parameters assessed according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. Water classification determined at end of each season using current season results and three prior years.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE standards. Biotic indicators show excellent status with low risk of proliferation for macroalgae, phytoplankton, and jellyfish. Short-term contamination risk factors are low and have minor effects: rainfall (low frequency, minor impact), urban wastewater (low frequency, minor impact via treatment plant), and coastal discharges (low frequency, minor impact). Water is not suitable for drinking purposes.

Risks

Macroalgae present with high CARLIT value in zones near the beach. Phytoplankton community shows typical Mediterranean structure without harmful algal blooms. Jellyfish proliferations are not habitual in the area.
