Playa Caleta del Espino is a 425-metre-long coastal bathing beach located on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach features white sand substrate interspersed with boulders and gravel, with a width of 6 metres. The water body is exposed to waves but experiences calm water conditions overall, with depths ranging from 0 to 12 metres. The surrounding water mass (ES70LZTI1 - North Lanzarote and La Graciosa) is in good ecological condition.

Location

Playa Caleta del Espino is located in the municipality of Haría, Las Palmas province, on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is good; vehicle access is regular. Parking is available and of good quality.

Facilities

Public drinking water source available; water suitable for consumption. Bars present. Containers and waste bins available. No showers, foot-washing facilities, changing rooms, lifeguards, medical services, public telephone, or umbrella/canopy/sun lounger rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four years of analytical results for faecal indicator bacteria Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci, in accordance with RD 1341/2007. The water mass ES70LZTI1 is in good ecological condition with a total state of good or better.

Risks

Episodic storm water discharge from runoff generated by heavy rainfall, which may transport contaminants from upstream sources, with expected duration of less than 72 hours. Episodes of Trichodesmium cyanobacteria proliferation occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
