Playa La Garita is a 810-metre-long coastal beach in Arrieta, Lanzarote, situated in the municipality of Haría. The beach features golden sand and boulders as substrate and is exposed to wave action. It is a natural surface coastal water body classified as part of the Norte de Lanzarote y La Graciosa water mass, which maintains good ecological status.

Coastal marine water body, type ES70LZTI1 (Norte de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, natural surface coastal). Bathymetry ranges from 0 to -7 metres. Wave exposure is moderate with gentle water conditions. Tidal range is 1–3 metres. Substrate consists of golden sand and boulders.

Arrieta, municipality of Haría, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain. Vehicle access is available but rated as regular. Pedestrian access is good. Parking is available but rated as regular.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on four-year evaluation of Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci indicators. The water mass maintains good ecological status (biological and physicochemical). No previous contamination episodes are recorded. Monitoring period: 1 February to 30 November.

Risks

Episodic risk of short-duration contamination from stormwater runoff and sediment transport from Barranco del Chafaris watercourse during heavy rainfall. Episodes of Trichodesmium cyanobacteria proliferation occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
