Playa Charco de las Agujas is a coastal bathing beach located in Corralejo, La Oliva municipality on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 700 meters long and 20 meters wide with fine golden sand substrate. It is exposed to moderate wave conditions with tidal ranges of 1 to 3 meters and depths ranging from 0 to 5 meters. The beach is accessible on foot with good pedestrian access and vehicle access available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four-year evaluation of fecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) according to RD 1341/2007. The surface coastal water body ES70FVTI2 is in good ecological status (biological and physico-chemical) with overall state of good or better. No previous contamination episodes recorded.

Risks

Two point sources of potential contamination: EDAR Apartamentos San Valentín and EDAR Las Agujas wastewater treatment plants. Risk of raw or treated urban wastewater discharge (pipe breaks, sewage network failures, emergency overflows, unauthorized discharges) with unpredictable frequency and expected duration under 72 hours. Jellyfish/sea urchin risk: no risk. Phytoplankton episodes occurred in 2004, 2010, and intensively in 2017. Cyanobacteria (Trichodesmium) proliferation episodes recorded. Jellyfish/Cnidarian presence recorded on 11 November 2019. Macroalgae: no risk.
