Playa Corralejo Viejo (Sur La Goleta) is a 250-meter-long coastal bathing area in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach features golden sand substrate and is exposed to wave action, with calm water conditions and a tidal range of 1–3 meters. The official swimming season runs from February 1 to November 30. The area is suitable for water sports including surfing and windsurfing.

Coastal marine water. Bathymetry depth: 0 to –1 meter. Beach dimensions: 250 meters long by 40 meters wide. Water conditions characterized by calm waters with exposed wave exposure. Tidal range: 1–3 meters. Substrate: golden sand.

Location

Located in the municipality of La Oliva on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, near the town of Corralejo. Pedestrian and vehicular access available. A promenade and parking facilities are present.

Water Quality

Water quality is assessed based on Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators collected over four years in accordance with RD 1341/2007. The water body ES70FVTI2 (Punta Jandía – Punta del Lago) is in good ecological status with a total state of good or better. Microbiological contamination episodes occurred on 06/03/2013 (from persistent rainfall) and 07/11/2016 (short-duration event).

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Port of Corralejo (sports and passenger dock). Point pollution sources: EBAR Poseidón, EBAR Muelle Chico, EBAR Puerto. Identified contamination nature: stormwater runoff from heavy rainfall (carrying contaminants from upstream), raw or treated urban wastewater (from breakdowns, sewer network failures, emergencies, unauthorized discharges), and accidental hydrocarbon or organic waste spills. Sporadic short-duration episodes (under 72 hours) expected from rainfall runoff and unforeseen episodes from sewage or hydrocarbon spills. Jellyfish/sea urchins: no risk. Macroalgae: no risk. Phytoplankton/cyanobacteria blooms reported in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017, with Trichodesmium cyanobacteria proliferation episode on 11/11/2019.
