Playa Muelle Viejo, also known as Muelle Chico or Corralejo, is a coastal bathing beach located in La Oliva municipality on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach measures 195 metres in length and 25 metres in width, with golden sand substrate. It is exposed to wave action but experiences calm water conditions overall, with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The beach is accessible by foot and by vehicle, with a seafront promenade and parking available.

Water Quality

Water quality classified based on four-year evaluation of faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. Diffuse microbiological contamination episodes recorded in July 2012, October 2014, July–September 2017, and September 2017. Short-duration microbiological contamination occurred in June 2013, August 2015, and November 2016. Additional contamination incidents in June–July 2017 and July–September 2017. Cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) episodes recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensively in 2017.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Corralejo Port. Point pollution sources: EBAR Muelle Chico, EBAR Puerto, and EBAR Poseidón (likely wastewater discharge points). Raw or treated urban wastewater contamination from pipe breaks, sewage network failures, emergency discharges, or unauthorised releases possible. Accidental hydrocarbon spills and ship cleaning residue discharge possible. Cyanobacteria blooms of Trichodesmium species documented. No risk from jellyfish or sea urchins. No risk from macroalgae.
