San Cristobal is a bathing beach located in Almuñecar, Granada, on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucía. The beach stretches for 925 metres with an average width of 50 metres and features dark sand composition. It is an urban beach with calm bathing conditions and moderate exposure to waves dominated by easterly and east-southeasterly winds associated with levante wind.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Deep water bathymetry with muddy sand substrate. Microtidal regime with tidal range of 0–2 metres. Current regime dominated toward the northeast. Annual precipitation in the area ranges from 400 to 600 millimetres.

Location

Almuñecar, Granada, Andalucía. Access on foot is easy, and vehicle access is available. The beach is within the limits of the Acantilados de Maro - Salobreña Natural Park.

Red Cross station, rescue equipment, lifeguard surveillance, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, nautical equipment rental, promenade, walkways, disabled access, warning signage, environmental signage.

Season

1 June to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Low short-duration microbiological contamination risk from diffuse sources including land use in the influence zone and altered built surfaces. Short-duration contamination assessed using deterministic methodology according to standard UNE 150008.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk from the Río Seco river course.
