Cabrera beach is an open sandy beach located in an urban, industrial, and agricultural setting within the municipality of Cabrera de Mar in Barcelona province, Catalonia. The beach is 1,120 meters long with an average width of 24 meters and covers an area of 25,084 square meters. It is bounded by the Torrent Meniu to the north and the Torrent dels Vinyals to the south. The beach experiences medium occupation levels during summer and is situated on the Mediterranean coast with a steep water entry gradient.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Water body type C17 (Mataró-Montgat): sandy shallow type with moderate continental influence. Average water temperatures: June 21.0°C, July 23.8°C, August 24.5°C, September 24.0°C. Average salinity range 37.2–38.3 psu. Significant wave height 0.69 m, average period 6.2 seconds, most frequent direction SSW. Predominant sea state is slight ripple. General circulation follows a cyclonic pattern with currents parallel to the continental coast.

Location

Cabrera de Mar municipality, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is in the Maresme region on the Mediterranean coast.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological and environmental controls are conducted for 17 consecutive weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological control measures Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental inspections evaluate water transparency, coloration, human-origin floating solids, marine and terrestrial plant debris, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The bathing water is managed by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) with weekly microbiological analysis and minimum three weekly environmental inspections during the bathing season.

Risks

The Riera de Cabrera and torrents (Vinyals, Molí, Meniu) provide occasional freshwater discharge to the bathing zone during rainfall conditions. The area has a high Hydrological Response Velocity Index (VRH), indicating rapid hydrological response during rain episodes. Phytoplankton proliferations are monitored as a natural phenomenon that may occur frequently during summer months. Hydrocarbons and other harmful substances are monitored.
