Playa Cavannas is a bathing beach located in La Manga del Mar Menor, Cartagena. The beach is 1200 meters long with an average width of 8 meters and features golden sand. It is a naturally formed, urban beach with high occupancy by non-resident users. Water renewal occurs within 7 days due to micromareal conditions with tidal amplitudes below 2 meters.

Coastal maritime zone within the Segura River Basin hydrographic demarcation. Water body: Mar Menor. Beach length 1200 meters, average width 8 meters. Sand composition with golden sand bottom. Micromareal conditions with tidal amplitude less than 2 meters.

Foot washing stations (2 units). Toilets (2 units). No showers. No changing rooms. Water activities: nautical rental and sailing club.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and in 2010–2011. No significant pollution pressure identified. No authorized discharges in the proximity. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation monitoring conducted in 2008 and 2009 showed negligible presence of potentially toxic cells throughout the bathing season. Risk level: null or very low.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Short-duration episodes are unlikely. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer. Jellyfish production is highly variable.
