Playa de la Gola is a natural sandy beach located in La Manga del Mar Menor, Cartagena. The beach is 200 metres long with an average width of 8 metres and features dark sand. It experiences a high degree of occupancy and is primarily used for weekend recreation. Water renewal occurs within 7 days.

Water

Coastal maritime zone within the Segura River Basin Demarcation. The bathing zone is a natural sandy beach with dark sand bottom, 200 metres long and 8 metres wide on average. Micromareal tidal amplitude (less than 2 metres). Water renewal time less than 7 days.

Facilities

Foot wash stations (3 units). No showers, toilets, or changing rooms available.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent during 2000–2009 and remained excellent in 2010 and 2011. No significant pollution pressure identified. The beach was not sampled in 2009 for potentially toxic phytoplankton analysis. The water body is classified as having acceptable ecological status according to the Hydrological Planning Instruction (ARM/2656/2008).

Risks

Jellyfish episodes are seasonal with peak abundance from early spring to late summer. Short-duration episodes are unlikely. Jellyfish production is highly variable. No toxic phytoplankton blooms identified.
