Playa Galúa is a 1,200-meter-long natural sandy beach in La Manga del Mar Menor near Cartagena, Spain. The beach has a golden sand bottom and experiences high occupancy with an estimated maximum of 15,600 swimmers daily. Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2011. The beach is located in an urban area with a micromareal tide range of less than 2 meters.

Coastal Mediterranean sea water body. Beach length 1,200 meters, average width 30 meters. Natural sandy beach with golden sand bottom. Water renewal rate less than 7 days. Micromareal tide range (less than 2 meters).

Water Quality

Water quality rated as excellent during 2000–2011. Monitoring conducted in 2008 and 2009. No significant pollution pressures identified. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a rare natural phenomenon with practically no presence of potentially toxic cells detected during bathing season surveys. No authorized discharges in the proximate area.

Risks

Jellyfish seasonal appearance occurs between early spring and late summer with highly variable production. Toxic phytoplankton proliferation risk rated as null or very low. Short-duration episodes are unlikely.
