Playa del Espigón is a bathing beach located in the municipality of Altea in the province of Alicante, Spain. The beach has a closed longitudinal configuration with perpendicular groyne structures for defense and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bounded to the north by the Río Algar and the Cap Negret beach, and to the south by La Roda beach. The beach is artificial in origin, composed of boulders, and situated on a low-accumulation coastline with microtidal range.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The bathing area belongs to the Júcar Hydrographic Demarcation, coastal water body category, with good status under the Water Framework Directive. Monitoring is conducted weekly during the bathing season with visual inspection parameters and analytical measurements recorded.

Risks

Río Algar discharge at the northern boundary with medium risk classification, continuous flow. Barranc del Clot de Mingot discharge with medium risk classification, sporadic frequency during rainfall. Low-frequency potential contamination risks from rainfall, urban sewerage, and coastal discharges, with slight impact. Cyanobacteria and harmful algal blooms are not typical in this coastal area.
