Playa de La Roda is a marine bathing beach located in the municipality of Altea, Alicante, Spain. The beach has a longitudinal open configuration with perpendicular breakwaters and a rigid maritime promenade. It spans 793.3 metres along the high tide line with an average width of 42.3 metres, composed of boulders and sand. The beach is situated in an urban area between the town centre of Altea to the north and Altea's fishing port to the south.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Hydrographic demarcation: Júcar. Water body status: Good. The beach is monitored weekly during the bathing season with assessments of water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness rated as Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient. No direct discharges to the coastline affect water quality. The municipal wastewater treatment plant (EDAR Altea) discharges effluent to the Algar River with a design capacity of 12,000 cubic metres per day and treatment efficiency of 95% for suspended solids, 98% for BOD5, and 94% for COD.

Risks

Potential short-duration contamination factors identified with low frequency and mild impact: rainfall, urban sewerage, and coastal discharges. Fitoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that can occur in zones with low water renewal. Jellyfish proliferation is associated with coastal geomorphology, climatic conditions, and high water temperatures.
