Playa de La Barreta is a closed cove-style beach located in Altea, Alicante, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach features a high-tide line of 188.5 metres and average width of 16 metres, with a composition of boulders and an artificial origin. It is bordered to the north by the Campomanes sports port and to the south by Playa de La Solsida, with perpendicular breakwaters serving as defence structures. The beach is situated in an urban zone with a micromareal tidal range and south-to-north current direction.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent. Monitoring point established in 2006 at the centre of the beach. Water body is subject to the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE. No direct discharges to the coastline affect water quality. Potential contamination risk factors assessed as low frequency and mild impact for rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected in the Valencian coastal waters.

Risks

Potential short-duration contamination factors identified with low frequency and mild impact: rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges. Phytoplankton proliferations are a natural phenomenon that can occur in low-renewal bathing zones, forming abnormal water coloration, foam, or mucilage. Jellyfish proliferations may occur naturally in association with coastal geomorphology, climatic conditions, and high water temperatures, particularly in low-renewal zones.
