Platja de la Casa dels Lladres is an open beach located in Mont-roig del Camp municipality in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The beach spans 600 meters in length with an average width of 35 meters and covers approximately 20,818 square meters. It is situated in a semi-urban residential setting with a campsite occupying more than half of the rear beach area. The beach experiences low occupancy during summer months and is naturally bordered by rocks at its southern end.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal water body. Water depth at the primary outfall (Emissari Estany Gelat) is 31 meters. The beach sediment is medium sand with a mean grain size of 0.44 mm. Water entry slope is very steep. Coastal evolution shows erosion at a rate of 0.16 meters per year. Average water temperature ranges from 21.5 °C in June to 25.6 °C in August. Average salinity is 37–38.3 practical salinity units. Significant wave height averages 81 centimeters with a mean period of 5.24 seconds. Predominant winds are northwest and weak. Predominant sea state is slight.

Location

Mont-roig del Camp municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is located on the Mediterranean coast with a southeastern orientation. It borders Platja de la Porquerola to the north where the Porquerola stream meets the sea.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored weekly for microbiological indicators including Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring is conducted during 17 consecutive weeks from the first week of June to the third week of September. The Catalan Water Agency performs weekly microbiological testing on Saturdays and minimum 3 weekly environmental inspections. Water quality is classified according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE criteria.

Risks

The Barranc de la Porquerola (Porquerola stream) reaches the beach at its northeastern boundary and typically does not reach the sea under normal conditions, but flows onto the beach during heavy rainfall. Two additional streams in the coastal area do not reach the rear beach due to urbanization. During storms, streets adjacent to the beach flood easily. The bathing area is located in a zone with high hydrological response velocity during heavy rainfall episodes.
