Platja de la Marina is a small cove located west of the port of Badalona in the Barcelona region of Catalonia, Spain. Protected by a breakwater, the beach maintains maximum stability throughout the year. The beach is 140 metres long with an average width of 40 metres and a steep water entry slope. It is bounded to the south by protection barriers of an interceptor collector overflow and to the north by the south contradict of the port.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. The bathing zone belongs to water mass C19, classified as sandy shallow water with moderate continental influence. Surface area: 5,600 square metres. Sediment type: coarse (median grain size 0.92 mm). Coastal line evolution: -1.8 metres per year. Average salinity range: 36.9–38.5 psu. Mean water temperatures: June 21.4°C, July 23.8°C, August 24.2°C, September 23.6°C. Significant wave height: 0.74 metres, average period 6 seconds, most frequent direction SSW. Predominant sea state: rippled. Predominant winds: south, weak intensity.

Badalona, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is part of the Badalona sports and fishing port, located on the Mediterranean coast in the Maresme region north of Barcelona.

Water Quality

The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) conducts microbiological quality monitoring during the bathing season (June to September) using biweekly inspections and analytical controls. Water quality is classified according to Directive 2006/7/CE, with evaluations based on faecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Annual classification is determined using statistical analysis of results from the last four bathing seasons, assigning one of four quality categories: Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient. Quality results are published biweekly and made available through the ACA website and the PlatgesCat application.

Risks

The beach is in a coastal zone with high hydrological response velocity (VRH). Multiple streams, primarily the Riera de Can Massachs, are the main sources of freshwater inflow and discharge near the bathing zone during rainfall. The Besòs wastewater system serves the area, with treated effluent discharged to sea via a submarine emissary at Port Fòrum (2,830 metres long, 48 metres deep) and an emergency emissary (580 metres long, 14 metres deep).
