Platja dels Pescadors is an open beach located in the highly urbanized and industrial municipality of Badalona in Barcelona province, Catalonia. The beach is 1,215 meters long with an average width of 55 meters and covers an area of 68,825 square meters. It is bounded to the northeast by the Riera de Canyadó and to the southwest by the Riera de Canyet. The beach experiences high occupancy during summer months.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Open beach with coarse sediment (D50 = 0.92 mm). Gentle water entry slope. Coastline erosion rate of -1.8 meters per year. Water temperature ranges from 21.4°C in June to 24.2°C in August. Mean salinity 36.9–38.5 psu. Significant wave height 0.74 meters with mean period of 6 seconds. High hydrological response index (VRH). Predominant wind direction south-weak. Predominant sea state: rippled.

Location

Badalona, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is located within an urban and industrial setting near the Port of Badalona and the mouth of the Besòs River.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored from June to September by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in accordance with Directive 2006/7/CE. Classification uses four categories: Excellent, Good, Sufficient, and Insufficient. Annual classification is based on statistical analysis of fecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococcus) from the last four monitoring seasons. The beach belongs to water masses C18 (Montgat-Badalona: sandy with low continental influence) and C19 (Sant Adrià de Besòs: sandy with moderate continental influence).

Risks

The beach is situated in an area with high hydrological response velocity during rainfall episodes. Three main streams (Riera de Canyadó, Riera de Matamoros, and Riera de Canyet) discharge freshwater into the bathing zone during heavy rain. The beach is near the Besòs wastewater treatment system with a principal submarine outfall located at the Parc del Nord-Est beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs, approximately 2,830 meters long at 48 meters depth. An emergency outfall operates during torrential rainfall events.
