Platja de la Punta del Guineu is a small semi-enclosed beach in the residential municipality of Roda de Barà, located on the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia. The beach measures 140 metres in length with an average width of 12 metres and a total surface area of 1,543 square metres. It is bounded on the left by rocks from the Sant Gaietà dock breakwater and naturally by rocks on the right, with the Roda de Barà sports port located nearby. The beach experiences high occupancy levels during summer and is characterized by fine sand sediment with a weak water entry slope.

Water

Mediterranean Sea, water mass C25 (Cubelles-Altafulla): sandy shallow type with low continental influence. Average salinity range 36.6–38.8 psu. Average water temperatures: June 21.7°C, July 25°C, August 25.7°C, September 24.5°C. Predominant sea state: light chop. Significant wave height 74 cm, mean period 6 seconds, most frequent direction SSW. Hydrological Response Velocity Index: High. No freshwater inputs discharge to the bathing zone or its vicinity.

Location

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Monitoring conducted for 17 consecutive weeks.

Water Quality

Monitoring conducted by Agència Catalana de l'Aigua (ACA) according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological control: weekly analysis (Saturdays) of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental control: minimum 3 weekly inspections. Parameters monitored include water transparency, coloration, human-origin floating solids, marine and terrestrial vegetation remains, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. Weekly sample collection and visual inspection of bathing zone. Additional analytical controls conducted in cases of affections or short-duration episodes.

Risks

Proximity to Roda de Barà sports port. The sanitation system includes emergency discharge points (emissaris d'emergència) located at nearby beaches that can be activated only in exceptional sewage system failure cases.
