Urbanización Playa Serena is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing water located in Roquetas de Mar, Almería. The beach extends 1,780 metres in length with an average width of 50 metres and dark sand composition. It experiences moderately exposed wave conditions with moderate winds and is highly occupied. The beach is fully urbanized with a promenade and pedestrian walkways.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Deep water with mud and sand substrate. Micromareal tidal range (0-2 m). Dominant currents towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Dominant wave regime from east and east-northeast associated with levante wind.

Location

Roquetas de Mar, Almería province, Andalucía. Easy pedestrian access and vehicle access available. Sports port at Roquetas de Mar 4 km away.

Facilities

Red Cross station, lifeguard equipment, surveillance equipment, accessible facilities for disabled persons, toilets, showers, waste bins, beach cleaning service, nautical equipment rental, sailing club. Signage and hazard warning signs present.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent for all four monitoring seasons: 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature (24-hour duration). Risk assessment methodology follows deterministic standard UNE 150008.

Risks

Potential point source from Roquetas wastewater treatment plant (AL400). Diffuse sources from land use in the influence zone and altered surfaces. Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
