Cantabrian Sea (maritime coastal water). The beach extends 1,000 metres with an average width of 60 metres. Characterized by strong wave conditions. Chlorophyll-a concentration at the Langre coastal water station is approximately 2.8 µg/l.

Location

Santander, Cantabria. Accessible by car via CA-440 road. Parking available with 50 spaces. Interurban bus transport available. Nearest hospital is Valdecilla, 30 kilometres away.

Showers available. Rubbish bins present. Lifeguard service available. Rescue equipment and first aid station (Cruz Roja) present. Signage present. Local police available. No toilets, disabled access facilities, beach umbrellas for hire, loungers for hire, kiosks, or maritime club.

Water Quality

Water classified as 'Excellent' in 2011 and 'Very Good' in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Bacteriological monitoring shows low contamination levels. E. coli and enterococcal concentrations remain well within acceptable parameters based on Directive 2006/7/EC standards.

Risks

Strong wave conditions and windy environment present natural hazards. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is very low, below 5,000,000 cells/litre. Low risk of non-compliance with water quality directives.
