Platja de les Roques Blanques is an open beach located in Sant Pol de Mar municipality in the Maresme region of Catalonia, Spain. The beach is oriented south-southeast with an average width of 30 metres and a length of 500 metres. It is situated in a semi-urban setting with medium summer occupancy, positioned between a small cliff to the north-east separating it from Platja de la Murtra and the Riera dels Oms stream to the south-west separating it from Platja de Canet. The beach runs parallel to the railway line and the N-II road.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Coastal water body classified as C16 Pineda de Mar-Mataró, sandy shallow type with low continental influence. Mean salinity range 36.7–38.8 psu. Average water temperatures: June 21.8°C, July 23.4°C, August 24.2°C, September 23.2°C. Significant wave height 0.69 metres, mean period 6.2 seconds. General circulation is cyclonic with currents parallel to the continental coast and north-east flow. Predominant wind direction is south-west (weak), with predominantly flat sea conditions.

Sant Pol de Mar municipality, Maresme region, Barcelona district, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is the southernmost beach of Sant Pol de Mar.

June to September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored fortnightly from June to September according to Directive 2006/7/CE and Royal Decree 1341/2007. Monitoring evaluates microbiological quality through analysis of fecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification categories are Excellent, Good (suitable for bathing), Sufficient, and Insufficient (not suitable for bathing). Quality is determined both on temporary basis after each fortnightly control and annually using combined analytical data from the preceding four years.

Risks

The Riera dels Oms is the main freshwater input that occasionally discharges into the bathing area during rainfall conditions. The Torrent de la Murtra is a secondary watercourse to the north of the bathing zone. The area has a high Hydrological Response Velocity Index (VRH), indicating rapid hydrological response during heavy rainfall episodes.
