Los Bajos is a 1,860-metre sandy beach in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, located along the Almería coast in Andalusia. The beach has a mean width of 30 metres and consists of boulders, sand, and gravel with dark sand composition. It experiences calm bathing conditions with low occupancy and is classified as semi-urban. The beach is situated within a protected zone comprising a Site of Community Importance and a Natural Monument.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. The water body is classified as deep with mud and sand substrate. Tidal range is microtidal (0–2 metres). Currents are dominant towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave exposure is moderate, with dominant waves from the east and east-northeast associated with levante winds.

Location

Roquetas de Mar, Almería province, Andalusia. The beach is easily accessible on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is located 4 kilometres away in Roquetas de Mar.

Facilities

Red Cross post is present. Surveillance equipment is available. Hazard signage is provided. Waste bins are available. A cleaning service operates at the beach. Disabled access, toilets, showers, lifeguard equipment, signage, and nautical rental services are not available.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as Excellent in all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Short-duration contamination risk is low and microbiological in nature, with a duration of 24 hours. Risk from algal proliferation is low, as are risks from jellyfish and macroalgae.

Risks

Short-duration microbiological contamination risk originates from diffuse sources including land use in the influence zone, built surfaces, and altered surfaces. The Rambla El Vinculo watercourse runs through the area. Risks from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae are all low.
