Playa de Plans is a bathing beach located in El Puig de Santa María, Valencia, Spain. The beach has an irregular closed configuration with perpendicular breakwaters for defense structures and no promenade. It is classified as a low-accumulation coastal area with artificial sand composition. The beach extends 1400.1 meters along the high tide line with an average width of 39.3 meters.

Maritime coastal water body in the Júcar hydrographic district. Coastal water mass category with microtidal range. Current direction runs from south to north. Annual total precipitation in the influencing zone is 325.8 mm with an average monthly precipitation of 27.15 mm. Wettest month is April; driest month is September.

Location

El Puig de Santa María, Valencia province, Comunidad Valenciana, Spain. The beach is bordered to the north by Playa de Santa Elvira-Torreta and to the south by Playa de Barri de Pescadors. Parking is available. Disabled access is not available.

Lifeguard rescue service available. Public free toilets available. Foot-wash showers available. Waste bins and selective recycling bins provided. Beach marking/buoyage system in place. Bar/snack facilities available. Parking available. Low bather density during bathing season.

Water Quality

Water body status is classified as Good under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE. Monitoring point (Urbanización Plansmar) has been in operation since 1992. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season assessing visual inspection parameters. Short-duration contamination risk factors include moderate frequency from rainfall with moderate impact, low frequency from urban sewerage with minor impact, and moderate frequency from coastal discharges with moderate impact.

Risks

Acequia de las Eras (mixed-origin irrigation canal) discharges continuously at the northern boundary with high risk classification. River/canal factors present with moderate frequency and minor impact. Industrial installations with low frequency and minor impact. Port installations with low frequency and minor impact. Diffuse pollution with low frequency and minor impact. Phytoplankton proliferations possible in zones with low water renewal. Jellyfish proliferations can occur naturally associated with coastal geomorphology, climate conditions, and high water temperatures.
