Medicalia Beach is located in El Puig de Santa María, Valencia province, Spain. It is a marine bathing zone with an irregular closed configuration, featuring perpendicular breakwaters for coastal defense. The beach has an artificial sand composition and is situated on a low accumulation coastline. Current direction flows from south to north, and the area experiences micromareal tidal ranges.

Marine bathing zone belonging to the Júcar Hydrographic Demarcation. The beach has a high tide line length of 337.9 metres and an average width of 82.9 metres. The water body is classified as Coastal (CW) with a typology category of 1. The mass of water is in good condition. The area receives average annual precipitation of 325.8 millimetres, with April as the wettest month and September as the driest.

Location

El Puig de Santa María, Valencia province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bordered to the north by PuigVal-PlayPuig beach and to the south by La Puebla de Farnals beach. Parking is available. Access is provided for the general public, but no accessible entry points for people with disabilities are available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excelente (Excellent). The monitoring point (Complejo Medicalia) has been operational since 1987. Water quality is managed under Royal Decree 1341/2007, transposing the EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/CE. Weekly inspections are conducted during the bathing season assessing visual parameters, beach maintenance, and facility functionality. Water quality ratings are published weekly by the autonomous community authority.

Risks

Two direct discharge points identified: Acequia de la Tanca (high risk, continuous discharge, located at northern limit) with a width of 2 metres; and Acequia junto a Carretera de San Valero (medium risk, intermittent discharge, located at southern limit) with a width of 1.3 metres. Short-duration contamination risk factors include rainfall (low frequency, moderate impact), urban sanitation (low frequency, slight impact), and coastal discharges (low frequency, moderate impact). Rivers and channels present high frequency but slight impact. Industrial installations, port facilities, and diffuse pollution all present low frequency with slight impact. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected. No dedicated environmental monitoring point established due to absence of direct coastal discharges or urban sewage connections directly affecting water quality.
