Punta Prima is a beach located in Orihuela, Alicante, in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is an open cove configuration beach with rocky and sandy composition, bordered by Cala Pitera to the north and Cala Mosca to the south. The beach features coastal defence breakwaters and a rigid maritime promenade. It has a high tidal range classified as microtidal.

Water

Coastal marine water body with a shoreline of 442 metres and average width of 8.7 metres. Rocky and sandy composition. Microtidal range. Current direction flows south to north. Located in the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation.

Location

Orihuela, Alicante Province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is situated within the urban area of Orihuela municipality. Parking is available.

Facilities

Lifeguards available. Public toilets free of charge and free toilets at beach bars. Foot showers (lavapiés). Disabled access. Parking. Beach bar/chiringuito. Buoys and flags for water marking. Beach lounger and umbrella rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitoring shows results from 2020–2023. The coastal water mass is classified as Good status under the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CE). No direct discharges to the coastline affect water quality. No urban sewage connections exist that could impact water quality.

Risks

Rainfall events occur with low frequency and mild impact, primarily affecting the area in spring and autumn. Urban sewage systems present low frequency and mild risk. Coastal discharges present low frequency and mild risk. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected in Valencian coastal waters. Phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation are monitored through dedicated control networks.
