Platja del Crit is a small enclosed beach located in Mont-ras municipality within the natural protected area of Castell-Cap-Roig on Catalonia's Costa Brava. The beach measures 60 metres in length with an average width of 10 metres and a surface area of 846 square metres. It is situated in a natural setting surrounded by forest, with residential structures nearby, and experiences low occupancy during summer months. The beach is bounded to the north by rocky outcrops leading to Cala del Vedell and to the south by cliffs.

Water

Mediterranean Sea. Water body type C14 Begur-Blanes: rocky deep-water type with low continental influence. Average salinity ranges 36.9–38.5 psu. Water temperatures: June 19.6°C, July 23.8°C, August 23.3°C, September 21.8°C. Hydrological response velocity index is high. The beach receives no permanent water input from rivers; only runoff arrives during rainfall events.

Location

Mont-ras municipality, Baix Empordà comarca, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain. Located within the protected natural area of Castell-Cap-Roig on the Mediterranean coast.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Monitoring occurs for 17 consecutive weeks with weekly microbiological sampling and minimum three weekly environmental inspections.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored under European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring occurs weekly for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental inspections are conducted minimum three times weekly, evaluating water transparency, coloration, floating solids, marine vegetation, phytoplankton, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The beach is served by the Palamós wastewater treatment system with biological treatment and a principal submarine outfall located at Castell beach in Palamós.

Risks

The beach is monitored for phytoplankton proliferations, which are natural phenomena that may occur frequently during summer months. Most proliferations form only coloured patches posing no risk to swimmers, though toxic species protocols exist. Hydrocarbon presence is monitored.
