Playa del Gurugú is a maritime bathing zone located in Benicarló, Castellón, in the Valencian Community. The beach features a longitudinal open configuration with no defense structures, composed primarily of gravel. It has an artificial origin and is situated in an urban zone along a low-accumulation coastline. The beach is approximately 1,105 metres long with an average width of 26.7 metres.

Marine bathing zone. Beach length 1,105.4 metres, average width 26.7 metres. Composition: gravel. Coastal water body classified as low-accumulation coast. Current direction south to north. Micromareal tidal range. Water mass category: coastal. Water mass status: very good condition.

Location

Benicarló, Castellón province, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by Playa del Morrongo and to the south by Playa de la Caracola. Access is available but there is no designated parking or accessible access for people with disabilities.

Facilities

Showers and foot-washing facilities available. Waste bins present. Buoys and marking system in place. No lifeguard or rescue service. No toilets, disabled access, or accessible point service. No bar or chiringuito. Low bather density during season.

1 June to 15 September

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020–2023: excellent. Monitoring conducted weekly during bathing season. Water quality parameters assessed as analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. The underlying water mass meets very good status under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE.

Risks

One direct discharge point: general collector spillway (Aliviadero colector general) located at the northern limit of the beach, classified as high-risk type with sporadic discharge frequency. Short-duration pollution factors identified as low frequency with minor impact: rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharges. Rivers/canals, industrial installations, port facilities, and diffuse pollution all present low frequency and minor impact. No cyanobacteria outbreaks detected in the Valencian coastal region.
