Playa de la Mar Xica is a maritime bathing zone located in Benicarló, Castellón, in the Valencian Community of Spain. The beach features a longitudinal open configuration with no defense structures and a rigid maritime promenade. It is bounded to the north by a rocky area near Cala Puntal and to the south by the port zone of Benicarló. The beach has a gravel composition of seminatural origin.

Water Quality

Water mass status rated as very good. Monitoring point established since 1992. Water quality classification for 2020–2023 seasons recorded as excellent. Weekly inspections conducted during bathing season evaluate water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. No direct discharges to coastline affecting water quality. Urban sewage system operates via Benicarló treatment plant (EDAR) with submarine outfall constructed in 1991.

Risks

Potential risk factors identified as low frequency with mild impact: rainfall, urban sewage systems, coastal discharges, rivers/channels, industrial installations, port facilities, and diffuse pollution. No cyanobacterial blooms detected in the Valencian coastal region. Phytoplankton proliferations and jellyfish blooms are natural phenomena that may occur but are not reported as identified risks at this location.
