Platja de Morro de Gos is a semi-enclosed beach located in the municipality of El Perelló in the Baix Ebre region of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The beach measures 160 metres in length with an average width of 20 metres and covers an area of 3,200 square metres. It is situated in a residential environment away from the urban centre, naturally delimited on the left by a rocky outcrop separating it from Platja de Santa Llúcia and on the right by a breakwater separating it from Cala de la Buena. The beach has a strong water entry gradient and a gravel substrate.

Mediterranean Sea coastal water body. Beach dimensions: 160 metres long, 20 metres average width, 3,200 square metres surface area. Gravel substrate with strong water entry gradient. Coastal evolution: -0.32 metres per year. Water mass C32 (sandy shallow type with moderate continental influence). Average salinity range: 28.1–38.4 psu. Water temperatures: June 22.4°C, July 26°C, August 25.6°C, September 24.7°C. Predominant wave height: 81 centimetres significant wave height, 5.24 second average period, primarily from the east. Predominant winds: northwest, weak intensity. Predominant sea state: slight ripple.

Located in El Perelló municipality (population 2,826) in the Baix Ebre region of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, in a residential area away from the urban centre.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored during the bathing season (June to September) by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in accordance with Directive 2006/7/CE and Royal Decree 1341/2007. Monitoring includes fortnightly water sampling and microbiological analysis of faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci). Annual water quality classification is determined from statistical analysis of results from the last four bathing seasons, using four categories: Excellent, Good, Sufficient, and Insufficient.

Risks

No freshwater inputs affecting the beach within or near the bathing zone. The area has low hydrological response velocity during rainfall episodes. A phytoplankton proliferation monitoring programme has been in place since 2000 to control algal blooms; toxic species protocols exist for public warning if detected.
