Platja dels Pescadors is an open beach located in the semi-urban municipality of Pineda de Mar in the Maresme region of Barcelona, Catalonia. The beach extends 2,860 metres with an average width of 53 metres and covers a surface area of 123,981 square metres. It features very coarse sediment and a steep water entry gradient. The beach has high occupancy levels during summer months.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal waters. The beach belongs to water body C15 (Blanes-Pineda de Mar), classified as a deep sandy type with moderate continental influence. Mean salinity: 37.2–38.5 psu. Mean water temperature: June 20.2°C, July 23.5°C, August 23.9°C, September 23.3°C. Significant wave height 0.69 m, mean period 6.2 seconds, most frequent direction SSW. Water currents follow general cyclonic circulation of the Catalan Sea with a coastal parallel current and north-eastward current towards the Balearics. Predominant sea state: slight chop. Predominant wind direction: south, light intensity.

Location

Pineda de Mar, Maresme region, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is bordered on the north by a storm drain in front of Carrer Santiago Rossinyol, separating it from Platja dels Pins, and on the south by Riera de Pineda, separating it from Platja Poblenou-La Riera.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological monitoring occurs weekly on Saturdays during 17 consecutive weeks. Environmental inspections occur a minimum of 3 times per week.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored and classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring focuses on Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental control evaluates water transparency, colour, human-origin floating solids, marine and terrestrial plant remains, foam, phytoplankton discoloration, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. The beach is served by the Alt Maresme wastewater system with biological treatment. Freshwater inputs from Riera Santiago Rusiñol and Riera de Pineda occur episodically during rainfall events.

Risks

The beach area has high hydrological response velocity index, indicating rapid response to rainfall events. Freshwater inputs from two streams can affect water quality during rain. Possible risks include phytoplankton blooms and hydrocarbons, which are monitored as part of the phytoplankton proliferation control program.
