El Castillo is a natural Mediterranean beach located in Fuengirola, Málaga, with a length of 685 metres and average width of 10 metres. The beach features dark sand, shallow waters, and moderate wave conditions. It is situated in an urban area with high occupancy and is exposed to moderate wave action dominated by easterly winds associated with Levante winds.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, naturally shallow with sand substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Currents flow dominantly towards the northeast. Wave regime is dominated by easterly and east-southeast winds. The water body is moderately exposed to wave action.

Fuengirola, Málaga, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot or by car. Parking is available.

Red Cross lifeguard service available. Lifeguard equipment present. Surveillance equipment in place. Showers available. Waste bins present. Beach cleaning service available. Nautical equipment rental available. Sport fishing port (Puerto de Fuengirola) nearby. No disabled access. No toilets. No signage. No boardwalks.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as Excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Short-term microbiological contamination risk is low. Sources of potential pollution include diffuse impacts from land use, constructed and altered surfaces in the influencing zone, and the Fuengirola wastewater treatment plant (EDAR FUENGIROLA, MA072), which discharges treated urban effluent. Risk assessment followed deterministic methodology according to UNE 150008 standard.
