Santa Amalia is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing beach located in Fuengirola, Málaga, Andalucía. The beach stretches 530 meters in length with an average width of 20 meters and features dark sand composition. It experiences calm bathing conditions with shallow waters and is moderately exposed to waves dominated by easterly and east-southeast winds associated with Levante wind patterns.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body with shallow bathymetry and sandy substrate. Microtidal range of 0–2 meters. Currents are dominant towards the northeast. Annual precipitation ranges from 400–600 mm with a torrent index of 25–50%.

Location

Fuengirola, Málaga, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot or by car. The beach is part of the Litoral de Málaga area and is adjacent to the Puerto de Fuengirola.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2013–2016 was consistently Excellent across all four seasons. Monitoring methodology used deterministic approach per UNE 150008 standard. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk is low. Identified contamination sources include diffuse land use impacts from built and altered surfaces, and point source from Fuengirola wastewater treatment plant (EDAR FUENGIROLA, MA072).
