Fuengirola is a 1200-metre urban beach in Málaga, Andalucía, with an average width of 20 metres composed of dark sand. The beach is situated on the Mediterranean coast and experiences calm bathing conditions with moderate wave exposure dominated by easterly winds. It is highly occupied and well-developed with urban amenities including a promenade and wooden walkways.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water, shallow depth (someras), sandy substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Currents predominantly flow toward the northeast. Annual precipitation ranges from 400–600 mm with a torrentiality index of 25–50%.

Location

Fuengirola, Málaga province, Andalucía. The beach is accessible on foot and by car, with disabled access available.

Facilities

Red Cross station, lifeguard rescue team, surveillance equipment, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, disabled access, danger signage, nautical rental, nautical club, and Fuengirola sports port.

1 June to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk of moderate degree identified. Pollution sources include diffuse land use and modified surfaces in the influence zone, and a treated urban wastewater treatment plant (EDAR Fuengirola).

Risks

Short-duration microbiological contamination risk of moderate degree. Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
