Water renewal time less than 7 days. Average wind speed 5.24 m/s. Current direction west-northwest. Strong wave action.

Location

Playa España is located in the parish of Repudia, municipality of Villaviciosa, Asturias, Spain. Good pedestrian access and road access are available with parking for 50–100 vehicles.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good for bathing in recent years. Sanitary microbiological quality assessments show excellent results in most monitoring years and good results in 2017. Risk of insufficient water quality is low. No recurring contamination episodes are recorded in historical data.

Risks

The río España discharges at the beach and can carry runoff water and seepage from adjacent parcels, potentially causing short-duration contamination episodes with increased enteric bacteria and turbidity. Jellyfish presence occurs occasionally during spring-summer months, with recorded incidents in 2008, 2010, and 2012, though with non-exceptional densities for the Cantabrian Sea. Risk from jellyfish proliferation is low. Microalgae and cyanobacteria proliferation risk is negligible. Macroalgae proliferation risk is low. Fuel microfragments were detected and removed in July 2012 due to problems at the Aboño thermal power plant.
