Playa de La Chapineta is a tranquil urban beach in Cartagena with moderate public attendance. The beach is 750 metres long with an average width of 15 metres, featuring fine sand and golden sand bottom. Water conditions are characterised by moderate waves. The beach received an excellent water quality classification for the 2017–2019 period.

Mediterranean Sea coastal zone within the Segura River Basin hydrological demarcation. Beach dimensions: 750 metres long, 15 metres average width. Natural origin with fine sand and gravel composition.

Location

Cartagena, located approximately 33 km from the nearest hospital (Santa Lucia). Road access via N-332/E-22/E-16. Easy pedestrian access, disabled access available, vehicle access available. Parking available with fewer than 50 spaces, not monitored. Interurban bus service available. Located near Puerto Deportivo Muelle Maestro Romero, approximately 3.8 km away.

Facilities

Toilets, foot showers, waste bins, cleaning service, food establishment, beverage establishment. Scuba diving zone available. No lifeguard service. No danger signalling. No umbrella or lounger rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for 2017–2019. E. coli ranged from 0–24 UFC/100 ml across monitoring years. Enterococcus ranged from 0–50 UFC/100 ml. No significant toxic phytoplankton proliferation recorded. Jellyfish presence reported as highly variable.

Risks

From 16–23 September 2019, health authorities issued a no-bathing recommendation due to suspected poor water quality caused by heavy rainfall runoff in preceding days.
