La Llastra beach is located in the municipality of Sueca in Valencia province, Valencian Community, Spain. It is a longitudinal open-configuration marine beach with an artificial sand composition and a rigid maritime promenade. The beach has a low-accumulation coastline with no defense structures. It extends 745.4 meters along the high-tide line with an average width of 30.8 meters.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on monitoring results from 2020–2023 shows excellent to good ratings. Managed under Spanish Royal Decree 1341/2007 and EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring conducted during official bathing season with weekly inspections evaluating water analysis, water appearance, and sand cleanliness. No direct coastal discharges affecting water quality. Two urban wastewater treatment plants serve the municipality: EDAR Sueca-El Perelló (8200 m³/d design capacity, 92–92–85% treatment efficiency for SS–DBO₅–DQO) and EDAR Sueca (18150 m³/d design capacity, 93–94–90% treatment efficiency for SS–DBO₅–DQO).

Risks

Low-frequency, low-impact potential contamination risk factors identified: rainfall, urban sanitation, coastal discharges, rivers/canals, industrial installations, port installations, and diffuse pollution. No cyanobacteria proliferation detected in the coastal region. Phytoplankton blooms are natural phenomena more frequent in low-renewal zones. Jellyfish blooms are natural phenomena associated with coastal geomorphology, climate conditions, and high water temperatures.
