Les Huelgues is a coastal beach located near the urban centre of Perlora in Carreño, Asturias. The beach is 200 metres long with a width of 40 metres and consists of sand, pebbles, and rock. Water renewal occurs in less than seven days, and wave conditions are generally calm. The beach experiences high occupation levels and is classified as urbanised.

Coastal water body. Length: 200 metres. Width: 40 metres, highly variable. Composition: sand, pebbles, and rock. Macrotidal range exceeding 4 metres. Average wind speed: 5.24 metres per second. Current direction: west-northwest. Water renewal time: less than seven days. Wave conditions: calm.

Located in Perlora, municipality of Carreño, Asturias, Spain. Good pedestrian access is available.

Water Quality

Water quality has been classified as Excellent for bathing in recent years, with the exception of 2017. Microbiological sanitary quality results show excellent standards at monitoring point PM1. The beach is not prone to microalgae and cyanobacteria proliferation. Overall contamination risk is assessed as low.

Risks

Four pollution sources exist in proximity: Candás port 1.2 kilometres away; Reguera stream 0.3 kilometres away with sewage pumping station that may transport contaminated water during storms and heavy tides; local sewage relief/pumping point 0.3 kilometres away; local sewage discharge point 0.1 kilometres away. Jellyfish occurrences are infrequent; four Portuguese man o'war specimens were sighted in summer 2008, and 2012 saw elevated jellyfish activity across the Asturian coast. Macroalgae proliferation risk is low. Oil particles from fuel leak at Aboño thermal plant were detected and removed in July 2012.
