Melicena is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing water located in Sorvilán, Granada, Andalucía. The beach extends 485 metres in length with an average width of 40 metres and features dark sand composition. Swimming conditions are characterized by calm waters with moderate wave exposure dominated by easterly winds. The beach has low occupancy and an urban character with a promenade.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water body. Batimetry shows deep waters with mud and sand substrate. Micromareal tidal range of 0–2 metres. Current regime dominates towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Annual precipitation is 400–600 mm with a torrentiality index of 75–100%.

Location

Sorvilán, Granada, Andalucía. The beach is accessible on foot or by car. Located along the Granada coastline near the Port of Adra.

Toilets available. Showers available. Waste bins present. Cleaning service available. No lifeguards. No Red Cross post. No rescue equipment. No disabled access. No signage. No nautical rental or club. No underwater sports zone.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitored seasons (2013–2016). Microbiological pollution risk is low and short-duration (24 hours). Pollution sources include diffuse land use impacts in the influence zone, built and altered surfaces, and a point source from the Melicena urban discharge (GR310).

Risks

Low risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
